Walls play an important role in the vertical design and thus the structure of the garden. Path, lawn and bed can be separated visually very attractively by a low wall. At the same time, this type of bed edging makes garden maintenance easier, because it guarantees that the lawn will be a thing of the past.

Brick bed borders (€29.90) are available in a wide variety of designs, so you can match them perfectly to the look of your green area:

The dry stone wall as bed boundary: execution

  • Lay the foundation and fill with sand.
  • The pedestal is formed by stones that are as long as possible.
  • Lay large stones on top and wedge firmly with smaller stones to create a stable border for the bed.

The bed border bricked with mortar

To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Mark the course of the wall with a rope scaffold, chalk or sand.
  • Dig a ditch about twice as deep as the stone height.
  • Fill in and compact a layer of gravel or sand as a base.
  • Then spread a sand-cement mixture in the trench.
  • Place the stones and gently tap them down with a mallet.
  • Check the correct position of the stones with the spirit level.
  • Apply a second and possibly a third row of stones.
  • Allow to dry thoroughly and fill with topsoil at the base.
  • Walls edging beds are usually not plastered.

tips

Gabions are very trendy at the moment. These are also available in low versions, which are well suited as bed borders, for example for raised beds with a modern design.
