Do you hear scratching and rumbling in your wall at night? You suspect a marten behind the noise? That's not unlikely. Find out below how to recognize a marten in the wall and how to get rid of it.

Detect martens in the wall
Martens make noise: rumbling, rumbling and scratching are among the most common noises. But they also cause other damage:
- They claw and bite holes in walls, leaving claw marks on walls and doorways.
- They bite insulation material.
- They leave feces.
- Sometimes they leave traces.
Drive away martens in the wall
If you have a marten in your wall, you should react quickly before stealing insulating material or settling down. The sooner you make the marten uncomfortable, the more likely it is that it will look for another hiding place.
The following (home) remedies spoil the marten’s stay:
- Odors such as citrus oils, toilet blocks, mothballs, cat or dog hair
- light signals
- Noise, e.g. from a radio or an ultrasonic device
- high voltage devices
In order to successfully drive away the marten, you should combine different measures and maintain them over a period of at least six weeks. Odor agents should be renewed regularly.
catch marten
Alternatively, you can also catch the marten using a live trap. However, this is more expensive and complicated than simply keeping him away. You also have to consider the closed season for martens.
tips
You must not kill the marten under any circumstances! Even if it is not under nature protection, it is still subject to hunting rights and, accordingly, may not be killed by laymen.
