The rim is the wheel of a car but without the surrounding tire. This can be excellently converted into a fire bowl - if you place a grill grate on it, you can even grill your sausages and steaks on it.

"Real" fire bowls are rarely available for less than 100 EUR - so it's no wonder that some people are looking for a cheaper alternative. Old car rims that are no longer used are ideal for this purpose: the fire gets enough oxygen inside through the holes and can crackle happily. Suitable rims are already available in stores for less than 30 EUR - and create a campfire that is just as cozy as a conventional fire bowl.
Which rims can be used as a fire bowl?
However, you cannot convert every rim into a fire bowl: models made of aluminum or fiber composite materials such as carbon or Kevlar are not suitable for a fire pit due to their poor heat resistance. Carbon, for example, is only heat-resistant up to around 110 °C. Instead, it is best to use steel rims that are robust, durable and also fireproof to the desired extent. They are available in different sizes: If you want to make a particularly large fire, you can use classic truck rims.
This is how you convert rims into a fire bowl
But before you place the steel rim on the lawn, fill it with wood and light it, you must first make the ground fireproof. For this purpose, dig a pit about ten centimeters deep, the dimensions of which are slightly larger than the diameter of the rim. Fill the pit with gravel and place the rim on it. Now pile up the wood and light it - the rim fire bowl is ready. With a grill grate on top, you can also convert this improvised fireplace into a usable grill in no time at all. You can also paint the rim with a heat-resistant paint (thermo paint or oven paint) and thus increase both the appearance and the durability of your extremely inexpensive fire bowl.
