A freshly created new bed is a pleasant sight, apparently not only for garden lovers but also for cats. Unfortunately, they don't just enjoy the sight, instead they like to use such a bed as a litter box.

Cats are reluctant to be seen in the garden bed

Finely crumbly, freshly raked soil seems to have an irresistible attraction for any cat. This applies, or so it seems, especially to freshly sown vegetable beds. But there are fairly simple ways to keep cats away. Place a few prickly shoots from pruning roses or blackberries on the bed.

Alternatively, cut a few strips of aluminum foil and tie them to sticks that you put in the bed in question. The crackling and glittering of the foil then prevents the animals from continuing to use the bed as a litter box.

Means to deter cats:

  • spikes and thorns
  • Cover with fleece, bird netting or wire mesh
  • "Piss off" plant
  • strips of aluminum foil

You can also use aluminum foil to keep birds away from your beds.
