A dead, bare or just "boring" tree can be wonderfully upgraded with a suitable rambler rose. These are climbing or creeping roses that can grow between three and five meters high, depending on the variety.

Rambler roses also climb trees

What are rambler roses?

These are climbing wild roses or wild rose hybrids that are perfect for planting trees. Rambler roses are divided into two groups: The first group includes varieties that bloom more often with stiff branches and more or less upright growth. Its flowers unfold from June to September / October. The second group includes only once-flowering or summer-blooming varieties that climb up scaffolding or grow into trees with long, flexible twigs as spreaders.

Decorate the garden with rambler roses

Rambler roses climb walls, fences and arbors as well as pergolas, free-standing arches or pyramids with the help of climbing frames made of wood or metal. Instead of an artificial scaffolding, a tree can also take on the supporting function. It is irrelevant whether the tree is dead or very much alive.

Plant rambler roses properly

When planting rambler roses, you should never place them directly on the tree trunk, as the plants, which can grow up to five meters high, need a lot of root space. So choose a planting distance between trunk and rose of at least 80 centimeters - this applies above all to shallow-rooted trees that cannot tolerate root pressure. The tendrils are guided to the tree by ropes.

location and care

The optimal location is sunny to light-shady, whereby heat build-up should be avoided. The selected tree should therefore not have an overly expansive and dense canopy. All rambler roses flower mainly on short shoots that are attached to the previous year's long shoots. Regular pruning is therefore prohibited. However, corrective cuts are possible.
