- A cake mold as a flower pot
Creative people certainly have a thousand and one ideas for making a flower pot themselves. All sorts of materials, from plastic bottles to cans, can be turned into flower pots with a little skill.

Requirements for a flower pot and design options
A planter should offer a plant a suitable habitat. First of all, it has to be big enough and have a drainage hole. The pot should be watertight, look decorative and possibly have a hanging device. If the flower pot is made yourself, low material prices and simple handicraft instructions are important.
There are no limits to the imagination when it comes to design options. Many materials that are thrown away could be recycled as a flower pot, for example a plastic bottle, a discarded metal mold for a loaf cake or even balloons. Even paper can be turned into a flower pot.
A flower pot made from a plastic bottle
You will need a large and a small plastic bottle (the ones with small "legs" at the bottom work best), spray paint, sandpaper, waterproof markers for writing, if you want, and scissors.
- Cut the bottle in half. The lower part is converted into a flower pot.
- Drill holes in the bottom of the bottle.
- If you want to hang the pot, also drill three or four holes in the edge area.
- Lightly sand the outside of the pot to help the paint adhere better.
- Spray the plastic and let it dry well.
- If you want, you can paint the primed bottle or write on it with the marker.
- Place a drainage of pebbles or expanded clay (19.73€) in the pot.
- Fill in potting soil and plant your flower.
A semicircular plaster planter
All you need is a balloon, a piece of plastic wrap and a plaster bandage from the pharmacy.
- Inflate the balloon to the desired size.
- Wet the plaster bandage as instructed and wrap it halfway around the balloon.
- Lay several layers for good stability.
- Let the mold dry well.
- Deflate the balloon and remove it.
- Drill a drainage hole in the plaster mold.
- Line the inside with plastic wrap, as the plaster pot is not waterproof.
- Pierce the film at the drain hole.
- Fill in a little expanded clay for drainage and then the potting soil.
Now you can plant a flower. The plaster pot can be placed on a ring or hung for stability. In this case, holes for a ribbon still have to be drilled in the edge.
A cake mold as a flower pot
If you have an obsolete box shape, you can convert it into a flower pot in just a few simple steps.
First drill some drainage holes in the bottom, then one hole in each of the four corners (only if you want to hang the shape). Since the cake molds are usually made of rustproof metal, it is not necessary to attach foil. You can immediately fill the mold with soil and plant a flower.
