Flower pots are available in all sizes on the market. The smallest have a diameter of just 4 cm at the top, while the giants can easily reach 50 cm in diameter. You always choose the pot slightly larger than the root ball of the plant that is to be used.

What is a flower pot?
This is a container made of different materials in which plants are cultivated in potting soil. Such flower pots are extremely practical because they can be placed in all sorts of places in the garden or on the balcony.
Plants that are sensitive to frost also feel comfortable in flower pots outside during the summer, and in winter they are simply stored frost-free.
The structure of a flower pot is actually always the same. The pot narrows towards the bottom, making it easier to repot plants. There is a hole in the bottom of the pot to allow excess water to drain. This avoids waterlogging.
Flower pots come in a variety of sizes. From a diameter of about 60 cm at the upper edge one speaks of plant pots. A saucer can be purchased to match the flower pot so that any water that runs off can be caught. The coasters are always a few centimeters smaller than the diameter of the pot.
If you don't want to use saucers, you can embellish your flower pot with a pretty cachepot. Here, however, care must be taken that no irrigation water collects in the cachepot, since most plants do not tolerate waterlogging.
What material are flower pots made of?
Flower pots were originally made of fired clay or terracotta. Over time, however, other materials have prevailed:
- Plastics such as polystyrene or polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride
- wood
- pottery
- porcelain
- Glass
- stone
- different metals (not suitable for the sun because it heats up too much)
Special forms of the flower pot
The flower box is one of the special forms of the flower pot. (€16.99) This is a rectangular plant pot with different lengths. Flower boxes (€16.99) are usually attached to the railing of the balcony.
Hanging baskets are also among the special forms of flower pots. The traffic lights have hanging devices on the upper edge.
Young plants are often isolated in special peat pots. The young plants can grow here for some time until they are big enough for the field. Then they can be planted with the pot in the ground.
