Lawns in the garden are considered to be above-average "eaten" by nature, so that regular fertilization is one of the regular obligatory tasks due to the resulting substance losses when mowing. Actually, the nutritional needs of the popular garden green are quite monotonous. Potassium and nitrogen are often enough, but power nutrition in the form of organic and mineral lawn fertilizers is still needed, at least two to three times a year. Anyone who fed with it in March will be back in July, because mineral fertilizers do not work for longer than six months. Organic fertilizer, which is applied to the lawn in the form of granules by hand or with a spreader, has a longer effect. Although its concentration is weaker, it does not leach out and improves the soil and its water holding capacity below the turf for a longer period of time. And the lawn needs strength, especially in summer, because it has to use all its energy to fight off the rampant weeds.

So if you don't fertilize or don't fertilize correctly, you don't have to be surprised about the extremely annoying lawn weeds. We have already highlighted the differences between the individual types of fertilizer in the previous article on soil care. They apply to the care of the garden green as well. But which of the felt thousands of different types of lawn fertilizer is really the most suitable? The heimwerker.de portal recently found out for 2022 - here are the recommendations:

Over-fertilizing is worse than not doing it at all!
Oops - sometimes something goes wrong when filling the spreader out of the bag and straight up onto the lawn. Or when fertilizing by hand - a little more won't hurt. Wrong, at least with the mineral lawn fertilizer, because it should really be applied exactly according to the manufacturer's instructions. It is therefore best to fill the spreader at the edge of the lawn to be on the safe side. However, the lawn does not mind a plus in organic fertilization, since the nutrients are only released gradually anyway and its concentration does not damage plants. Incidentally, the somewhat unpleasant odors after pouring on have disappeared after a short time. After fertilizing with organic and high-quality mineral substances that are completely safe for children and pets, the lawn can be walked on immediately. If you use fertilizer with an integrated moss killer (€15.29), you should leave the green areas completely alone for at least three days.
tips and tricks
After fertilizing your lawn during the summer months, you should mow it once a week, or even twice a week if mulching is used. If possible not too deep, otherwise the formation of moss and weeds will be accelerated.
