By laying a drip hose in the garden, your beds will be watered almost automatically. Just connect and water march! But where does the water come from? From the rain barrel, of course. Connecting a drip hose here is child's play.

Drip irrigation is an efficient, water-saving irrigation method

manual

For a drip irrigation do not need to spend a lot of money. You probably have most of the utensils on hand. Otherwise, all the necessary materials are commercially available at low cost. The system can be quickly installed in just a few simple steps.

material

  • a rain barrel
  • if necessary, a rise or platform (see below)
  • a garden hose
  • Hammer and Nail
  • a plug

Build drip irrigation yourself

  1. Place your water butt in an elevated position (about 1m above the ground).
  2. Lay the hose in the garden.
  3. Seal one end with a stopper.
  4. Network all plants to be watered.
  5. Mark the hose with a dot where the water is to emerge later.
  6. Later, use a hammer and nail to pierce small holes in the drip hose.
  7. Fill the hose with water.
  8. Place the open end in the rain barrel.

connectivity

The method described above is the simplest variant. To stop the water flow, you have to manually remove the hose from the rain barrel (€53.99). Alternatively, you can also connect the drip hose to the outlet tap, which you then only have to open and close. Or you can use these instructions to drill a hole in your water butt and attach the drip hose to a separate location.

Pay attention to what?

A water pressure of at least 0.5 bar is required so that the water flows into the hose independently and without a pump. Accordingly, the bin has to be placed a little higher. Under this link you can read how to build a suitable base yourself.
