An outlet tap on the rain barrel proves to be particularly useful when emptying. However, the construction is only useful if it is completely tight. You should therefore seal your outlet tap well when installing it. If this precaution presents you with a challenge, you will find valuable tips on this page that make sealing the tap child's play.

A leaky tap on the water butt means unnecessary water loss

Attach the tap

A lot can go wrong when installing a tap on the water butt. Imprecise bores often have to be sealed with a seal. First of all, instructions on how to mount the tap on the water butt:

  1. Drill a hole in the bottom of the rain barrel.
  2. On some models you will find a pre-cut marking.
  3. Push the tap and screw connection through the hole.
  4. Tighten the construction with the pipe wrench.

If the tap fills the hole exactly, you can put your water butt into operation immediately. Unfortunately, this is the case with the rarest works. Small inaccuracies often result in leaks at the edge of the hole. Seal these as follows:

seal gaps

  1. Use reducing sleeves from the hardware store.
  2. If your water butt is made of metal, you will also need a hemp braid.
  3. Take a few strands of hemp braid and wrap them around the thread of the tap.
  4. Screw the tap with the strands into the reducer.
  5. Tighten the assembly again with the pipe wrench.
  6. Now all you have to do is screw on the utensils that pump the water into the tap.
  7. You can then start a test run.
  8. If no water comes out of the faucet, your water butt is functional.

Note: Hemp braids have a very intense, unpleasant odor when you remove them from the package. However, this disappears after some time.
