If you have a water butt in your garden, you've probably been using the water you've collected to water your plants for a long time. However, the constant skimming with the watering can is very tedious. Have you ever thought about drip irrigation in the greenhouse? Such a system not only saves a lot of time, but can also be built with little effort. This article tells you how to do it.

Build your own irrigation system
Required material
- A rain barrel
- A garden hose
- Hammer and Nail
- A stopper
requirement
A pressure of at least 0.5 bar is required for the water to flow from the water butt into your greenhouse without a pump. You can easily ensure this by placing your water butt on a pedestal. It should still be a meter high. Alternatively, place the bin on a table.
building instructions
- Lay the hose in the garden up to the greenhouse.
- One end should always be connected to the rain barrel.
- Now mark the hose at the points where the water for irrigation will later emerge.
- Use a hammer and a small nail to prick the hose at the marked points.
- With a superscript ton, the holes should be slightly larger.
- Detach the excess tubing section.
- Seal the end with a stopper.
- Fill the hose with water.
- Hang one end over the edge in the rain barrel.
- Check whether the water comes out at the desired places.
- With a larger greenhouse, the construction is also possible with several hoses.
- Secure the hose to the edge of the bin with some tape.
- When the greenhouse plants are sufficiently watered, stop the water flow manually.
- Simply pull the hose out of the bin.
