Many garden owners know the problem: The once so dense, lush green has large gaps in which more and more weeds are settling and it would be urgently necessary to replant the lawn. But do you have to laboriously remove all the weeds first? Or is it less sweaty and still effective? We answer these questions in the following article.

1st step: Mow the lawn deep
Before you can start weed control and new planting, you should mow the lawn as deep as possible. Since many electric mowers have problems cutting dandelions and other weeds at a height of about four centimeters, you should borrow a powerful petrol mower for this job if necessary. Set this to the lowest mowing level.
Step 2: Scarify
- Adjust the device so that the blades cut a few centimeters deep into the soil.
- Drive once lengthways and once across the lawn, this will remove moss and weeds optimally.
- Everything that the scarifier (€84.00) has solved is then thoroughly done by the lawn.
You will be amazed at how many weeds have already disappeared as a result of this measure. You should dig up larger weed nests that are still green after this work. A weed puller is particularly helpful with dandelions, with which you can lift the long taproot completely out of the ground.
Step 3: Level the lawn
Removing weed roots and moss usually resulted in uneven surfaces. Apply a layer of sandy topsoil here. You can also use this to fill in the holes that the weed puller may have left behind.
Step 4: Sow the lawn
Now it's time to sow fresh greens. Choose a special seed mix for lawn renovation and apply it with a spreader. As a result, the seeds are distributed completely and evenly over the entire surface.
To prevent weeds from settling again immediately, you should provide the lawn with a starter lawn fertilizer. It has a high proportion of phosphorus and nitrogen, which is bound in a urea compound that is optimal for the lawn and is also effective against weeds.
Cover the seeds with a fine layer of hummus. You can now compact the area with a lawn roller so that the seeds get good contact with the ground. Then water with a soft jet.
tips
Do not let the lawn dry out in the first few weeks so that the seed can germinate quickly. It then forms a dense network of fine roots that prevent weed seeds from sprout.
