Bird baths may offer water to wild birds and be a feast for the eyes of us humans. After all, we will see them every day, especially in summer. Crafting with mosaic stones is fun and challenges creativity. The simple shape of the potions makes a mosaic a success even for beginners.

True works of art can be created with mosaic stones

Materials required

With a little skill and imagination, you can build the bird bath yourself. A wide and several centimeters deep saucer for flower pots or a comparable bowl serves as a craft base for a potion. Both can be made of plastic. It is best if the base is plain and monochromatic. You will also need the following craft materials:

  • Colored mosaic stones of your choice
  • white mosaic glue
  • grout
  • paint brush
  • mop

test pattern

Before you start gluing the mosaic stones, you should try out the desired pattern. In this way you can see whether you like it or whether it makes sense to make corrections. Since the inside of the coaster plays the main role in a bird bath, only this is covered.

Instructions for the mosaic

  1. Now stick the mosaic stones on the inside of the coaster. Use the glue according to the instructions for this. It usually has to be applied generously.
  2. Wait for the glue to dry completely. Otherwise the stones can slip quickly. The drying process can take several hours.
  3. Mix the grout according to the instructions.
  4. Spread the grout evenly over the entire surface with the brush. The mosaic stones may be painted over.
  5. Let the grout dry a little and then wipe the mosaic stones clean with a cloth.
  6. Allow the shell to dry for about 48 hours before using it as a potion.

Set up a bird bath

Now it's time to set up the bird bath. Roam your garden in search of a suitable spot. This is important because the animals need to feel safe there. A misplaced bird bath will not be accepted. Therefore, pay attention to the following criteria:

  • choose a clear spot
  • Birds should be able to recognize approaching danger in good time
  • Bushes and trees are welcome
  • however, they should be at least 3 m away from the drinking trough
  • an opportunity to raise the potions is ideal

tips

Clean the drinking trough regularly and replace unclean water. Otherwise, a disease can quickly spread among the birds.
