A beautifully landscaped garden behind the home often only becomes a true oasis of relaxation in the warm months of the year with a certain feeling of privacy. Even if there is not really a significant budget available for this, a decorative privacy screen can be created with creative ideas for little money.

A privacy fence made of twigs is inexpensive and looks pretty

Braid a screen out of twigs or use reed mats

In principle, a privacy screen with a natural look can be made relatively easily from the cuttings of certain plants. For example, the long, straight branches of the following plant species are suitable for braiding a privacy fence:

  • hazelnut
  • poplar
  • pasture

In particular, privacy fences made of willow branches are very popular, as the branches stuck vertically into the ground usually form roots by themselves and the privacy screen created from cut material becomes a living privacy screen over time. However, privacy screens made of reeds or dried willow branches are relatively inexpensive. However, these must be firmly anchored with appropriate holding posts so that they do not fly away immediately in stronger winds.

Absolutely trendy: privacy screens made from pallets

Recycling is trendy and it is therefore absolutely in line with the current trend to build your own privacy screen from used pallets. These can often still be used if they already show too many signs of use for the logistics industry. However, make sure not to use pallets with pollutant residues for the privacy screen construction with pallets. If a high privacy screen is to be built from more than one row of pallets one on top of the other, it is essential to ensure that it is securely mounted on the appropriate support posts. Otherwise, the not inconsiderable dead weight of the wooden pallets can sometimes lead to serious accidents.

Fast and inexpensive: climbing plants on a stretched net

If you want to cover the garbage cans or the compost with a privacy screen, then it should usually be done quickly. In such a case you can simply stretch a reasonably stable net between two wooden posts or trees and let beans or fast-growing annual vines climb up it.

tips

A privacy screen made of pallets can also be greened as a "living wall" if small planters for herbs or flowers are integrated into the crossbars of the pallets. Due to the exposed climatic conditions on a wall, however, these must be watered very regularly, for which an automatic drip system is ideal.
