Dahlia bulbs only last a few years. However, if you divide them in time or take cuttings from the georgines in spring, you can grow your favorite variety in the garden for a lifetime.

Propagation by cuttings
Propagation by cuttings is mainly used in horticulture, as many plants can be grown from one tuber in this way. One tuber yields up to 20 new georgines.
The tubers are taken out of their winter quarters in late winter and brought to prosper in a pot or box.
The pots or boxes are covered with a thin layer of soil. Place the dahlia bulbs on top and sprinkle a thin layer of soil over them. Place the dahlias at around 18 degrees and water them lightly so that they can sprout.
Do not break off cuttings
As soon as a shoot has formed four pairs of leaves, carefully break them off directly at the bulb. Gardening experts recommend not cutting them off, as diseases can develop from the escaping plant sap.
The cuttings are placed in potting soil and placed in a bright and warm place in the house. You will know that roots have formed when new leaves develop.
Keep the small plants moist but not too wet. The newly acquired dahlias are only allowed into the garden after the ice saints.

Dahlia tubers can be divided every two to three years, so you always have a supply of georgines in the garden.

You can also grow dahlias from seeds. If you want to propagate your georgines this way, collect the seeds in early fall and let them dry. They are then sown in the spring.
