In contrast to the small prunella (Prunella vulgaris), the common or large-flowered prunella is grown in semi-natural gardens as a medicinal plant or ornamental plant in the flower bed. The plant is very easy to care for and can cope with both dry and compacted soils.

The pretty medicinal plant thrives best in the sun

Which location does the brownelle prefer?

  • Sunny to semi-shady
  • dry or humid location
  • calcareous soil

Low-maintenance ground cover

While the large-flowered prunella is grown as a single perennial, the small prunella is wonderful to care for as a ground cover in the garden. Due to the rapid growth and spread via foothills, the plant forms dense cushions under trees and in front of shrubs.

The pretty white, red and purple flowers appear from June to August, attracting many insects and especially bees.

tips

Since the commonweed spreads through runners and seeds and quickly becomes weeds in the lawn, you should remove runners regularly. A root barrier does not help, as the plant multiplies via above-ground runners.
