Walnuts are delicious, versatile and also very healthy. For example, they contain plenty of vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids. If you have a walnut tree in your green oasis that bears good fruit, you logically want to enjoy all the ingredients and the best taste of the nuts. It is extremely important to only harvest ripe walnuts. But when are the fruits fully ripe? We clarify!

When are walnuts ripe?
Walnuts are generally ripe from mid-September. For some varieties, however, the ripening time falls at the beginning of October, such as the Geisenheim walnut or the Moselan walnut. The good thing is that you don't have to keep a close eye on the ripening time of the walnut - the nuts will clearly show you when they are ready to be harvested.
What do ripe walnuts look like?
A green-brown discolored and burst, wrinkled, cracked outer shell makes it clear that the walnut in question has reached the peak of its maturity. The fruit then falls off the tree by itself - all you have to do is collect it.
