The tool shed in the garden is full to bursting with cutting tools, the blades of which become blunt after prolonged use. The range extends from the rose scissors to the ax to the lawnmower. For a long time, a separate grinding aid was required for each device. Thanks to the innovative universal knife sharpener, you only need one device for all blades. You can read how it works here.

A knife sharpener isn't just for sharpening knives

Functionality and preparatory work

The universal knife sharpener from Westfalia is designed in such a way that it sharpens the blades of secateurs (€17.82) just as reliably as the knives on the lawnmower or the edge of a spade. The grinder fits all drills and cordless screwdrivers. Correctly clamped, the sharpener automatically works at the right angle. An advantage is that neither the blades of a pair of scissors nor the lawnmower blades have to be removed. How to properly prepare the knife sharpener:

  • Check the grinding wheel for a tight fit of the screw and lock washer
  • If the fit is too loose, press the lock washer firmly against the plastic ring
  • Pull out the mains plug on electric mowers and pull out the spark plug connector on petrol mowers
  • Clean blades and fix with lawn mower blade blocker
  • Put on goggles

After thorough cleaning, please clamp pruning shears and other tools firmly in place before you start sanding.

Use universal knife sharpener - how to sharpen your garden tools

Take your drill (€97.00) or cordless screwdriver and clamp in the knife sharpener. In the first step, use the flattened edge of the sharpening stone to remove nicks, nicks and burrs. Then use the conical shaped part of the whetstone to sharpen the knife.

It is important to note for the professional sharpening process that you move the sharpening stone from the inside to the outside on the knife edge. At the end of the knife, briefly lift the sharpening stone. If the knife edges are only slightly beveled, tilt the stone backwards.

The biggest hazard when sharpening lawnmower blades is imbalance. You can prevent this shortcoming by making sure that you remove the same amount of material on both sides.

tips

Is there no drill available to power the Westfalia sharpener? Then simply use a combi sharpening stone. European water sharpening stones with a fine-grain and a coarse-grain side are perfect for perfectly sharpening your pruning shears.
