Pumpkin seeds are not only healthy, they also taste delicious. They are just as good as a snack between meals as they are as an ingredient in baking or as a crunchy topping for muesli. So when you're preparing pumpkin, it would be a shame to just throw away the insides, especially since cleaning and drying the seeds is quick and easy.

Removing pumpkin flesh from pumpkin seeds is no easy task

The pumpkin seeds are clean in five minutes

In addition to the pumpkin seeds, you only need kitchen towels and a coarse and a fine kitchen sieve.

  1. Put the pumpkin seeds in the coarse sieve.
  2. Run water into the sink so that the kernels are completely washed.
  3. Swirl everything in the water by hand, rubbing the pumpkin seeds along the edge of the sieve again and again.
  4. The clean seeds are lighter than the pulp and float on top.
  5. Skim off the pumpkin seeds by hand and put them in the second sieve.
  6. Clean again as described above.
  7. Skim off the pumpkin seeds and spread them out on a kitchen towel. Place another towel over it and gently rub. This will also loosen the last bits of pumpkin flesh.

Then simply put the kitchen towel in the wash. Any adherent fibers can be easily removed in the washing machine.

Dry pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds can be dried and roasted very well in the oven:

  1. Preheat the tube to 180 degrees.
  2. Place the kernels on a baking sheet. They shouldn't overlap.
  3. Put the tray in the oven.
  4. After 10 minutes, turn the pumpkin seeds over with a spatula.
  5. Roast for another 10 minutes.
  6. Let cool completely and crack open the shell.
  7. Store the pumpkin seeds in a tight-fitting container in a cool, dry place.

If desired, you can mix the pumpkin seeds before roasting them

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • Spices like oregano, thyme, chili, paprika, salt, pepper

turn and get a healthy, very aromatic snack.

tips

It is often advised to place the pumpkin seeds on kitchen paper and rub off the last fibers with it. We advise against this, as not only the sticky parts of the pumpkin flesh but also the seeds stick to the paper. The kitchen paper can then often no longer be removed without leaving any residue.
