They have delighted us with the color of their flowers or a delightful scent. Now we must not let them down. When flower bulbs wilt, it's time to start thinking about the next season. This is how we support them in gathering strength.

let the leaves wither
When the bulbs finish flowering, all their splendor disappears. The desire to simply cut off the undecorated leftovers quickly arises. But you shouldn't do that! At least not if you want the bulbs to bloom the following year.
The leaves contain nutrients that are gradually extracted from them and stored in the onion. They form the power reserve for the next expulsion.
Dig up flower bulbs
Once the foliage and flower stalk have completely died, you can dig up the bulbs.
- frost-sensitive flower bulb varieties
have to be dug up
- hardy varieties can be dug up
- but they may also remain outdoors
Storing flower bulbs
The dug up flower bulbs must overwinter until spring in an airy, cool and dark place. Imperfect specimens must first be sorted out.
tips
If the weather permits, let the bulbs dry outside. Otherwise rot can spread in the winter quarters.
