It has to be frost free
Since the flower cane is not frost hardy, it should only be planted after the ice saints in May. The tubers can come outdoors from May. If you want to plant early young plants from the nursery, do not plant them outdoors before June.
Recommendation: advance tubers
In order to be able to witness the flowers already in late spring, it is advisable to advance the tubers of Canna :
- from January/February start of driving
- Stick tubers in soil
- put in a warm place
- wait until they sprout before watering
tips and tricks
If the canna is to be in the pot on the balcony, for example, it can be planted earlier. The pot can be placed indoors at night to protect against frost.
