The blood hazelnut - bright dark red
The blood hazelnut is one of the red varieties among the hazelnuts. It grows as a shrub and its foliage emerges a brilliant red colour. Depending on the location, the red turns into a dark red or dark violet, only to turn into a rich green in midsummer.
In addition to its foliage, this red hazelnut has reddish flowers. The female flowers have a reddish style. The male catkins are also colored red. Since they appear before the foliage between March and April, they are adept at drawing attention with their bright red colour.
But these were by no means all red plant parts of the blood hazelnut. It also forms red or red-brown nuts. The nut shell and the fruit cup are colored red. The seeds inside, on the other hand, are brown as usual. The nuts of this variety can be harvested in September and are edible.

Therefore, another variety should be placed near this plant in order to be able to harvest nuts later.
Later, the leaves of the red-leaved cellulosic nut, which forms a hazelnut bush, sprout and reveal a green color to the world. The green turns to a dark red in sunny locations and a bronze red in shady locations. In autumn it again shows the courage to change and turns yellow to orange.
The fruits of this variety:

- ripen between September and October
- form a colorful picture together with the autumn leaves
