Due to their high histamine content, bitter almonds should never be eaten raw. Prunus dulcis var. amara, as well as Prunus x amygdalopersica, thrive primarily along German wine routes.

Lovers of the lovely almond blossom prefer to plant the ornamental almond Prunus triloba in their garden at home. In spring it impresses with a delicate, pink tone.
