Like red and black currants, blood currants produce fruit in the summer after they have blossomed. The berries are not poisonous, but are not suitable for human consumption due to their lack of aroma.

This is how you recognize the fruits of the blood currant:
- Blue-black berries
- Slightly frosted
- About a centimeter in diameter
- Growing on panicles
In July and August, the fruits of the blood currant are ripe.
The berries hardly have any taste of their own and are therefore not harvested in order to cook or freeze them.
Unlike humans, birds like to eat the berries. Therefore, leave the panicles hanging on the bushes.
