Like the well-known hyacinth, the grape hyacinth is poisonous to cats. It contains, among other things, so-called calcium oxalates and oxalic acid, which can lead to irritation of the mucous membranes and other symptoms. The following symptoms may occur if a cat has nibbled too much grape hyacinth:
- Vomit
- diarrhea
- bleeding from body orifices
- Tremble
- cramps
- drowsiness
- increased salivation

In the case of poisoning by the pearl hyacinth, action is required. Give the cat water to drink and mix in some activated charcoal if necessary. The subsequent trip to the vet should not be missed.
