apparition

Vinegar trees develop their flowers after the leaves have sprout in early summer. The flowering period extends from June to July. Numerous individual flowers stand together in flask-shaped inflorescences. The inflorescences with male reproductive organs are light green in color and larger than the red female flowers. Vinegar trees develop their flowers at different times to prevent self-pollination.

use

Like all other parts of the plant, the inflorescences contain a sour cell juice that gives lemonades a refreshing taste. Because of the tannins it contains, eating large amounts can lead to stomach and intestinal problems.

How seeds are used:

  • dried as a spice
  • for the preparation of lemonades
  • for pickling in vinegar
