You probably know from numerous other plants that growth or flowering increases significantly by cutting back the plant from time to time. This is usually not necessary with the sequoia. However, a blend serves some special purposes. Here you can find out why it can be useful to cut the Sequoia.

What is a blend used for?
By pruning your sequoia
- encourage growth by pruning the crown
- inhibit growth by selectively removing shoots
Thin out the sequoia
Thinning out makes sense when branches are too close together and obstruct each other. You should also regularly remove branches with brown needles.
inhibit growth
After you put your Sequoia outside in the ground, its height will increase rapidly. For reasons of space or visual wishes, cutting back individual shoots can prevent the growth height from exceeding your expectations. It is advisable to monitor growth, especially when kept in tubs.
The right technique
You have to consider this when clearing:
- remove any branches growing close in
- remove any branches that cross each other
- cut the branches so that no residue remains
Here's what you need to know to slow down growth:
- just prune the tips of the branches
The right time
Ideally, you should make the cut in the spring. Then young shoots form, which are particularly easy to remove. If necessary, you can also use hedge trimmers (€77.00) later in the year. Cutting a sequoia is possible until October.
tip
You can get cutting tools with telescopic arms from specialist retailers. These are suitable for particularly tall plants such as the Sequoia genus.
Propagation tip
The young shoots and cuttings that you remove when cutting can be planted in a nursery to propagate your sequoia.
