Water not only has an extremely calming effect, it can also be used wonderfully for the design of gardens and relaxation areas - such as the terrace.

A stream is a special extra for the terrace

Terrace as an oasis of well-being

On the terrace, which is usually right next to the house and often acts as an “extended living room”, you want to rest after work, stretch your legs and unwind. It therefore makes sense to design this part of the garden as a quiet oasis of well-being that allows relaxation and even promotes it with the right design elements. This also includes water, which calms things down in the form of small water features or even a stream near the terrace with its quiet splashing.

Ideas for the terrace design with a stream

The stream on the terrace can be realized in many different ways. A very nice idea is a stream running around the terrace, for example made of brick, whose banks have been lushly planted with flowering perennials and shrubs. Not only do you bring a piece of nature close to the house in this way, you also create a certain privacy screen through the planting - at least if the plants are high enough. This is also an advantage for the flow of water in the brook, because it shouldn't be in full sun anyway - less of the precious water evaporates in the shade. A boulder that has been processed accordingly can be used as a source, or a pretty water feature that releases the water into the stream with a gentle gurgling sound. A collection basin or a small pond is indispensable as the end point, and you must not forget a pump for the constant water circulation.

You should keep this in mind when planning the course of the stream

And this is where things get critical when planning a romantic stream course directly on the terrace: Such a pump naturally makes noise, and the higher its output, the more it does so. So think carefully about whether you can live with the constant hum or whether this noise will probably soon get on your nerves. For the same reason, there should only be a brook running around the terrace, not a rushing brook - the more water flows, the louder it ripples.

tips

It should also be borne in mind that mosquitoes are more likely to be found near bodies of water. Of course, a small stream or another water source directly on a terrace is no exception.
