A small stream is - depending on what the result should look like - created within a shorter or longer period of time. There are many ideas for this. From the softly murmuring brook, which seeks its way from the source through the blooming summer meadow, to the brook with dense vegetation in the bank area, to the artistically designed water path with a waterfall and lighting: Anything that pleases you and suits the style of the is allowed own garden fits best.

A stream with a small bridge is a particularly beautiful garden element

Inspired by nature

In a natural garden, you basically have three options for designing the stream:

  • A meadow stream winds its way to the garden pond without further bank planting.
  • The stream is provided with a lush planting.
  • The stream has rapids or even one or more waterfalls.

The concrete design of these basic ideas can be very creative and individual. However, it is important with a near-natural stream bed that you do without symmetry if possible. This means that the stream does not run dead straight to its destination, but winds in small and larger curves. The width of the stream bed is also not uniform, but varies from time to time - as does the density of the planting.

Streams for modern gardens

Of course, a brook like this, which is based on nature, does not fit into every garden. Those who prefer it accurate and modern can plan and lay out the course of the stream accordingly: dead straight from the source to the reservoir, perhaps embedded in a concrete or natural stone subsoil. Placed slightly higher, the side walls serve as seating. Light sources can also be integrated into these, which illuminate the water from the inside on warm summer evenings and thus create a romantic atmosphere.

Get across with dry feet

If the brook runs right through the garden, you don't necessarily want to have to constantly take detours to get to the other side of the garden. Depending on the width of the creek, a small bridge or simply stones laid in the creek bed make it possible to get across quickly and still keep your feet dry.

tips

A stream only ripples if it can run down an incline of at least two percent. With excavated earth, for example from building a house, an artificial slope can be built, designed and planted. At its foot, the stream flows into a small pond.
