Stones bring structure to the garden bed

Garden bed stones

There are many different rock types, sizes, shapes and colors. In this article, we want to give you ideas for using the following types of rock in the garden bed:

  • boulders or quarry stones of different sizes,
  • bricks
  • and pebbles or grit.(46.95€)

Field stones or quarry stones for the garden bed

With a bit of luck, you can find boulders or quarry stones on the side of the road, in the field or in the forest. Farmers will even be happy if you remove those annoying big stones from their field. But beware! Don't rob anyone of stones they would like to have themselves! If in doubt, ask. It is also generally not permitted to take stones with you in the forest. Inquire about the applicable regulations.

Field stones and quarry stones can be used in a variety of ways in the bed:

  • Large field or rubble stones can be placed in the garden bed as decorative elements and planted with ground cover or succulents.
  • If you have a lot of field or quarry stones at hand, you can use them to create a small natural stone wall and plant them or use them as a border for a raised bed or a herb snail.
  • Is your garden not level? Fix embankments with the natural stones!
  • Smaller boulders can act as edging for your garden beds.

bricks

Old bricks are ideal for small walls, bed borders or for laying out paths. Although they are not as natural as field or quarry stones, their beautiful red color brings atmosphere to the garden.

pebbles or grit

Pebbles and grit are often used to create paths, but also to cover beds. They look modern and elegant and prevent weed growth. With two different shades of gravel or grit, you can create beautiful patterns in the garden bed. For example, white and gray is a very nice combination. Add easy-care grasses and a few shrubs and you have a modern rock garden.

tips

Lay out shapes or paths with your stones. If you have a larger budget, you can create a water course with stones in the garden bed.
