Goji berries are now not only valued as a particularly valuable dietary supplement, but also offer a decorative sight, especially during the flowering period. After all, varieties with a high fruit load between June and August are covered with a large number of purple funnel-shaped flowers.

Characteristics of the Goji flower
The flowers of the goji berry, also known as wolfberry, are funnel-shaped and stand out with their bright purple color against the fresh green of the leaves on the branches. The stamens covered with bright yellow pollen and the green pistil protrude from the center of the flower funnel. The later shape of the fruit to be harvested can already be guessed at from the green stems of the flowers during the flowering period.
Reasons for the lack of flowering
If there are no flowers or fruits on the branches of the wolfberry, there can be various reasons:
- Plants that are too young: Goji berries usually flower from the third year of growth
- a wrong variety: only selected cultivars offer high yields
- lack of care: pruning forces the formation of shorter shoots
Regular pruning usually has a positive effect on fruit set, since otherwise the plants invest a lot of energy in the formation of long shoots and their rooting when they touch the ground.
tips
Goji berries are inherently self-fertile, but planting multiple specimens can improve pollination performance.
