- Attractive flowers and vitamin-rich fruit enjoyment
- Pay attention to the right care during the flowering period
Goji berries became well known in this country a few years ago due to the trend towards so-called "superfoods". The vigorously growing shrubs not only bear delicious and healthy fruit, but also delight garden owners with their delicate flowers.

Attractive flowers and vitamin-rich fruit enjoyment
The goji berry, also known in Europe as common wolfberry or Chinese wolfberry, forms numerous stalked flowers on its arching, overhanging long shoots during the main flowering period from July to August. Depending on the location and the weather, these can bloom as early as June or into September. These flowers are:
- colored purple
- equipped with a bell-shaped calyx
- are surmounted at the corolla by long stamens and the style
In a sufficiently sunny location, fertilized flowers develop into orange to bright red berries that can be eaten fresh or dried.
Pay attention to the right care during the flowering period
To facilitate growth, goji berries should be planted in spring in soil that is as permeable as possible. The plant prefers a rather sunny location with enough space to spread. Even when it is hot and a certain dryness, it should not be watered all the time. However, it is helpful if some water is given near the ground every few days in the morning or evening if the dryness persists.
tips
With good care, a wolfberry plant grown from a cutting usually bears serious amounts of fruit in the third year. If the plant does not bloom, it may be due to incorrect pruning measures. The wolfberry always sets flowers and thus also fruits on two-year or perennial shoots.
