It doesn't matter whether it's a watering can, zinc tub or zinc bucket - planted zinc containers are a wonderful decorative element for the house and garden. In the following we have put together the best ideas for you on how and with what you can plant your zinc pots and what to look out for.

Drainage for zinc vessels
If your zinc pots are going to be outdoors, it is important that you provide good drainage. Depending on the size of the container, you should drill one or more holes in the bottom. To prevent these drain holes from clogging, cover them with a potsherd that curves upwards or with drainage fleece. A layer of expanded clay (19.73€) or granules several centimeters thick is placed on top of this as a drainage layer.
Plant zinc pots without holes
If you don't have a drill handy, you can also plant in the zinc pots without drainage holes - as long as the plant pots are covered and the watering can be controlled. Otherwise, there is an option to fill the zinc vessels with water and aquatic plants. You can read more about the zinc tub without drainage here.
These plants do well in zinc pots
In principle, you can plant all potted plants in zinc pots, provided the location is right. Here are a few ideas for choosing plants:
- grasses
- succulents
- cacti (for indoor use)
- Groundcover (trail beautifully over the edge)
- Climbing plants (hang over the edge or can be pulled up with climbing aids)
- Flowering perennials
- Green ornamental plants
- herbs
- lettuce or other small vegetables
- strawberries
Beautiful design ideas for zinc vessels
If you have several zinc containers of different or even the same size at hand, you can plant them with plants of different sizes and set them up in a harmonious formation according to size. You can also skilfully combine flower colors: pink and white or blue and white are elegant-looking combinations, for example, or create a colorful sea of flowers by mixing vigorously flowering perennials.
Succulents and Co. as a stone landscape
