A carport can be planted in a variety of ways: Whether it’s on the roof, pillars or side walls, green plants on or on the carport not only look beautiful, they also provide more shade, cleaner air and moisture. You can find ideas on how to plant your carport below.

Plant the pillars of the carport
If you want to green your carport selectively, it is probably sufficient to place climbing plants on the four pillars. In order to protect the wood of your carport, you should not choose self-climbing plants with adhesive roots. Although these save work because they do not need a climbing aid, the stubborn roots damage the paintwork and wood of the carport. It is therefore better to opt for a climbing plant without adhesive roots or twining or twining climbing plants that pull themselves up but do not damage the carport.
Green walls for the carport
If you not only want to green the pillars of your carport, but want to grow larger plants, you can stretch ropes vertically and horizontally between your pillars or attach wire mesh (€14.99) and use them to pull up beautiful climbing plants.

Plant the carport roof
Another way of planting a carport is with a green roof. Since a carport is almost always a flat roof, green roofs are usually inexpensive. However, you should make sure that the statics of the carport allows greening, because even the narrowest green roof weighs 10 to 13 kg per square meter when wet. Therefore, only an extensive layer, i.e. a 10 to 20 cm thick layer, is usually suitable for the carport. Grasses, mosses and various types of sedum can be planted on it.
