In Germany alone, more than half a million tons of used tires end up in landfill every year. Even if used tires are completely recyclable, many citizens save themselves the disposal and unload the tires e.g. in the largest illegal garbage dump in Dessau, where 1800 tons of used tires are already piled up. In the case of illegal disposal, a fine of almost 1000€ awaits the offender. Therefore, never dump your car tires in the forest, although it doesn't necessarily have to be the dump. How to use the car tires: The most beautiful ideas

Of course, you can simply lay the car tires on the lawn, fill them with soil and plant them. It's easy and quick. But you can also get a little creative and for example:

  • Stack several car tires on top of each other like a wall, fill them with soil and plant them, e.g. fix a slope or conceal a difference in height.
  • Hang the car tire(s) on the wall and only plant the lower part, e.g. with hanging plants.
  • Build a small, round raised bed by stacking several car tires on top of each other.
  • Cut flower petals into the car tire and paint it to create a chic, colorful flower pot. Below we explain how to do this.

In any case, the car tires look nicer when they are painted. Ideally, spray or paint them with weatherproof paint to add splashes of color to your garden.

The car tire with flower petals

A painted car tire doesn't look bad, but if you want to add some shape to it, you can cut it to size as you like. This is how it works.

What you need for this:

  • chalk
  • A big, sharp knife
  • good strength
  • weatherproof, environmentally friendly paint

How to proceed:

  • On the top, starting from the inside edge, paint petals or semi-circles around the car tire. The circles should reach no further than the outer edge. Make sure that they are distributed as evenly as possible and are the same size.
  • Then use a knife to cut out what you have drawn from the middle.
  • When you have everything cut out, turn the car tire inside out. That's a big effort, but it's how your petals bend outward!
  • Then paint as desired, fill with soil and plant.
