A planted cart is reminiscent of romantic country house design. Colorful summer flowers in particular look good in the handcart. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when planting. Find out below how to plant your handcart step by step.

If you want to fill a cart with soil, you should first line it with pond liner

The variants for planting the ladder wagon

There are different types of carts or handcarts: Some are only made up of crossbars, so that the body has numerous free spaces, others are more massive and completely lined with wood. Handcarts with large gaps are often simply decorated with beautiful flower pots. This saves a lot of work and material. The other variant is to fill the ladder truck completely with soil and then plant it. For this you need:

  • Wagon battens with gaps and hammer and nails
  • pond liner or similar
  • Tucker
  • scissors
  • pebbles
  • Earth
  • plant

1. Prepare the trolley

If your cart is one with many spaces, you either need a suitable planter that you put in the cart or you fill in the spaces by closing them with wooden slats.
The wood must be protected from moisture in all variants, otherwise the joy of the planted cart will only last a short time. To do this, line the entire ladder truck with pond liner and staple it firmly to the edge.

2. Fill the trolley

Now cut several holes in the underside of the pond liner where there is also a space in the slats on the floor of the cart so that backwater can drain off. Now put a one to three centimeter thick layer of pebbles in the cart. This acts as a drainage layer. Be careful not to clog the drainage holes. For example, you can cover and protect it with a piece of pottery. Then fill the ladder truck with earth.

3. Plant carts

Now put your plants inside. The more colorful and densely overgrown, the more beautiful! But make sure to keep the recommended planting distance between each plant. Also pay attention to the location requirements of the individual plants! Here are a few ideas for choosing plants.

Which plants are suitable for the handcart?

On the cart, creeping or hanging balcony plants look better than tall ones. Typical examples are:

  • fuchsias
  • begonias
  • geraniums
  • petunias

For smaller carts, small flowers or flowering groundcover are also suitable, such as:

  • pansies
  • autumn anemones
  • phlox
  • thyme
  • carnations
  • ice flowers
  • bluebells
  • Vinca minor
  • cranesbill
  • elf flower
  • catnip

tips

Plants have different location requirements, which must be observed. The choice of plants for handcarts that are in the shade is somewhat limited. Ask your specialist dealer which ones are suitable for you.
