Who says that a beach chair can only be on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts? The attractive beach furniture has long since conquered gardens and balconies to the south. Absolutely trendy and still inexpensive are models that you can easily build yourself from Euro pallets. With our detailed instructions and a little manual skill, this becomes child's play.

Many different seat variants can be built from pallets

Material list:

  • 8 Euro pallets
  • 4 boards, 120 cm long, 30 cm wide
  • wood screws and nails
  • varnish or glaze

To make the beach chair easier to transport, you can attach four sturdy wheels. The roof can optionally be embellished with awning fabric.

The required tool:

  • sandpaper
  • brush and paint roller
  • folding rule
  • hammer
  • cordless drill

preparation

Especially if you get the pallets directly from a transport company, they often have unsightly signs of use. Therefore, first sand the wood and paint it in a color of your choice. Weatherproof paint ensures that your new patio furniture will not weather.

Assembly instructions for the lower part

First, the lower half of the beach chair with the seats is built. To do this, place two Euro pallets (€29.99) upright at a distance of one Euro plate. The surface provided with slats is directed inwards.

The Euro pallets have a central brace. To the right and left of this, connect the two pallets with 2 boards. Make sure there is an even gap between the center and outer beams of the pallet.

Another Euro pallet serves as a rear wall. Screw them on in the next step. The fourth pallet is now placed on the boards. This forms the generous seating area. Also screw.

If you would like to attach wheels so that you can easily move the beach chair, place it on the backrest and attach it to the four corners. It is advisable to use castors with brakes, such as those used for furniture. This prevents them from slipping away unintentionally when they want to sit down. Even in households with children, you should only use castors with brakes.

The upper part of the beach chair

Now it's time to build the backrest and roof. If you have decided against castors, for example because the garden furniture is to stand on a soft surface, it is advisable to attach them in such a way that the screw connection can be easily loosened for transport. Screw connections with wing nuts are a good alternative in this case.

Again, two pallets are screwed together as a side wall with a Euro pallet that serves as the rear wall. Attach at least one other board to it. The last Euro pallet is placed on this (s) and connected with screws so that the beach chair has a stable roof. Now put both beach chair parts on top of each other and connect them.

Alternatively, you can attach the backrest at a comfortable sitting angle. To do this, you have to bevel the entire Euro pallet at the bottom so that the desired inclination results.

Make the roof weatherproof

Depending on your individual taste, you can now cover the roof with roofing felt or another material. The covering ensures that you don't get wet even when it rains and that the upholstery also stays dry in bad weather. Be sure to nail the roofing felt with special pins.

It looks very attractive if you embellish the upper part with awning fabric. You can easily attach it with stainless steel clips and a tacker. When doing this, fold a hem, otherwise the open cut edges could fray.

The equipment of the beach chair

To make it really comfortable, the beach chair is equipped with soft garden seat cushions or lots of cushions.

Alternatively, you can build the cushions for the seats yourself. For this you need:

  • screen printing plates
  • foam
  • awning fabric
  • Spray adhesive, suitable for foam
  • Staple gun with staples

each in the size of the seat and/or backrest.

manual

  • First glue the foam boards to the screen printing boards with the spray adhesive. This makes it easier to cover the upholstery with the fabric later.
  • Now lay out the awning fabric flat and place the screen printing plate on top. The foam side comes to lie on the fabric.
  • Fold edges of fabric over like a hem.
  • Staple the opposite sides of each. Stretch the awning fabric so that no unintentional folds form.

The finished upholstery parts can now be screwed to the seat and backrest from below.

tips

The side walls of the self-made beach chair can also be embellished with covered screen printing plates. Hanging planters give the garden furniture made from Euro pallets the finishing touch.
