Especially with garden shed kits, one might get the idea of simply building the shed on a level, drained, tamped down, vegetation-free surface. But that's not a really good idea, because due to the lack of anchoring, you might have to look for your arbor on the neighboring property the next time there is a strong wind. But how can the house be fixed to the ground so that it is weatherproof?

The foundation connects the house to the ground
Here you have different options:
- point foundation
- strip foundation
- slab foundation
The point foundation
With this foundation, which is quite easy to erect, the concrete is only applied selectively. These concrete points, on which the foundation beams are then attached, should protrude about 20 centimeters deeper than the frost line into the ground.
You can either support the holes with wooden casing or simply insert PVC drain pipes that are then filled with concrete. This is also a very economical and practical option, which ensures good air circulation and is therefore practical if you have to place the garden shed (€24.90) in a rather damp corner of the garden.
The strip foundation
Boarded trenches filled with concrete form the basis here on which you can then attach the gazebo. The strips run under the outside walls of the house, in the case of larger garden houses, strips inserted across the position of the beams provide additional support.
The slab foundation
Here the entire base plate of the arbor is cast in concrete. This is a little more complicated to make:
- First, a sufficiently deep pit is dug.
- Filled and compacted with a drainage layer of sand and gravel.
- The concrete surface is poured onto this.
- It is advisable to also bring in a steel mat for greater stability.
A substrate made of terrace slabs
Metal sheds are often attached to a substructure made of concrete slabs that are laid in a gravel bed and are easy to erect. You attach the metal substructure to this, into which the side elements are then inserted.
tips
Please consider that a foundation makes the gazebo subject to approval in all federal states. Don't be afraid to go to the authorities, as you can almost always get planning permission for a standard garden shed without any problems.
