- The wall thickness
- Additional insulation

- Winterizing the vacant house
If you are planning to build a gazebo, you should also think about how the house will be used in the future. For example, would you like to store flowers in it over the winter, use it as a second living room during the cold season, or use the space you have gained for your hobby? Depending on the application, a different design is advisable.

The wall thickness
If you are planning a simple tool shed, a wall thickness of around two centimeters is sufficient. But if you occasionally celebrate or want to spend the night in the house during the summer months, we recommend slightly thicker walls of at least four centimeters. On hot summer days you can take advantage of the insulating properties of the wood, because it stays at a pleasant temperature in the house.
Perhaps your garden house (€24.90) is on a recreational property and you would like to spend the night there regularly? Even if the arbor is used all year round as a hobby or fitness room, the wall thickness should not be less than seven centimeters. With integrated heating, you can achieve almost the same level of comfort as in your normal apartment.
Additional insulation
You can also winterize the garden house with optional insulation:
- The outer walls can be insulated all around in the multi-layer insulation system.
- The inner walls can also be clad with a wall filled with insulating material in front of the wall.
- When it comes to insulation, don't forget the base, because the main way cold gets in is through the floor.
- Effective roof insulation prevents the heat from escaping here.
Good care ensures weather resistance
In order for the garden house to be winterproof, you have to take good care of it right from the start.
- Treat all wooden parts with a weather protection glaze before assembly.
- You should renew this coat of paint every two to three years.
- Check the house regularly for damage through which water could penetrate.
- Regular ventilation ensures that any condensation liquid that forms can escape.
Winterizing the vacant house
If you only use the garden house in the summer months, you have to winterize it in the fall:
- Check the arbor for damage before you say goodbye to it for months.
- Turn off the water and, if necessary, the electricity.
- If you empty the rain barrel, it will not burst when there is frost.
tips
During the winter months, occasionally check that everything is in order and remove heavy snow loads from the roof. In this way you can prevent uninvited visitors from settling in your arbor.
