The one-sided pitched pent roof is traditionally used for garages, sheds and factory buildings. It is also very popular with garden houses because of its modern appearance and uncomplicated construction. In small buildings in particular, it is relatively easy to plan and implement this roof yourself.

Which incline do you recommend?
With a pent roof you have many roofing options. Are suitable:
- roofing felt
- bitumen shingles
- a metal cover
- Brick.
The angle of inclination the roof should have depends on the planned covering. In order for rainwater to run off well, it should be at least five and at most fifteen centimetres.
The Alignment
If it is purely a tool shed, you should preferably align the roof surface to the west. In almost all regions of Germany this is the weather page; the building is better protected from the weather.
If, on the other hand, you would like to use the self-built garden house with a pent roof as a second living room, it is better to orientate it to the north. If you also bring in large windows in the front, you get a light-flooded room that almost conveys the atmosphere of a conservatory.

The building instructions
- Create a substructure made of concrete stone slabs or concrete.
- After drying, the floor structure is mounted.
- Now build the side walls based on your planning.
- For the pent roof, take the dimensions from the construction plan and saw all the parts accordingly.
- After the purlins have been attached and reinforced with head straps, you can put on the rafters and screw them together.
- Additional roof battens give the roofing stability.
- If not already done, glaze or varnish all wooden surfaces.
- Finally, put on the roof covering of your choice.
