- Hang a swing from the tree(s).
- Concrete the swing
- Fasten the swing frame with ground anchors or sleeves
By far not every swing frame has such a high dead weight that no further attachment would be required. There are various methods available to effectively prevent the swing frame from tipping over. Choose the one that suits your purposes.

Hang a swing from the tree(s).
The easiest way to "set up" a swing is to hang it from a tree or between two trees. In order for the swing to hang securely from a tree, it must have a stable branch at a suitable height. You can easily hang a swing board on it.
When attaching a swing between two trees, you need an aid, for example a tension rope or a heavy-duty belt. In addition, the two trees should not be too far apart, otherwise the stability of your construction will suffer.
Concrete the swing
The most stable attachment for a swing frame (€10.76) is to embed the posts in concrete. If you are renting, ask your landlord beforehand to be on the safe side. Concrete work in the garden is not always allowed without consultation. This work is not complicated, but the ground should be frost-free.
In order to dig in the right places, it is best to place the assembled swing frame in the desired location. Then use flour or fine sand to mark where the posts are and then set the frame aside again. However, keep in mind that with this form of attachment, the swing frame will be lower than if you place it on the ground and attach it with anchors.
Dig the holes for concrete. A depth of about 50 cm is recommended. The hole should be approximately 15 cm larger than the post diameter. Put in some gravel and then the mixed concrete. Set the frame in the still wet concrete, at least 10 cm deep, but preferably 20 cm. The swing may only be used after the concrete has dried.
Fasten the swing frame with ground anchors or sleeves
Determine the location of the swing in the same way as when embedding it in concrete and set the swing frame aside. You can use a chalk line to ensure that all anchors are at the same height. This makes it easier for you to set up the swing horizontally.
Depending on the type of ground anchors or drive-in sleeves you have chosen, you can set them in concrete or screw them into the ground. Information about the individual work steps can be found on the Internet or ask directly at the hardware store how you should attach them securely when you buy them.
Ways to attach a wooden swing:
- extremely high weight
- concrete the post
- anchor posts
- Fasten with ground sockets or ground anchors
- hang on the tree/trees
tips
Do not let your children swing before you have properly attached the swing frame. The lighter the frame, the faster an avoidable accident happened.
