- Mowing line breaks - tips on causes and troubleshooting
- Mowing thread doesn't keep up - this is how it gets going again
If the grass trimmer doesn't work, a thread problem is usually the root of all evil. There are primarily two complications that rob the troubled gardener's last nerve. Here you can find out what these are and how you can remedy the defect yourself.

Mowing line breaks - tips on causes and troubleshooting
A torn mowing line is the undisputed leader in the inglorious ranking of common lawn trimmer problems. We have summarized the causes of the annoyance with tips for solving the problem below:
- Thread that is unsuitable or too thin: Wind up the original thread with the strength specified by the manufacturer
- Incorrect use: do not trim wet grass, cut off tall grass and light bushes in stages, avoid stones
- Hardened line material: Soak new or long-stored line in water for 24 hours
Incorrect winding technique will tear the cutting line. Do not wrap the thread too tightly or too loosely around the bobbin. With a double thread, the halves must not cross each other. Each half of the line should be wound in its spool groove to prevent the material from snagging and tearing.
Mowing thread doesn't keep up - this is how it gets going again
Most grass trimmers (31.33€) have a mechanical automatic so that a sufficiently long line is always available. If the mowing line becomes too short, tap the mowing head briefly on the ground while the engine is running. This releases the thread brake and releases a piece of mowing wire. If this automatic thread control does not work, please check the device for the following causes:
- Wound up in the wrong direction: Always thread in the replacement thread in the direction of the arrow
- Mowing line too thick: refer to the operator's manual for the appropriate size and replace the line
- Spool or mowing wire is jammed: Thoroughly clean the line mowing head of dirt particles, small stones or twigs
Angular grass trimmer lines do not wear out as quickly and break less often. However, the threads often get stuck in the spool. If you choose a round, smooth cutting line, the automatic replenishment rarely causes problems.
tips
Grass trimmers with a 2-stroke engine often cause frustration for the gardener because the device does not start. If a lack of fuel can be ruled out as the cause, please check the condition of the spark plug and air filter. For a cold start, push in the choke. When the engine is warm, please remove the choke so that your brushcutter (€139.99) starts.
