If the grass trimmer does not start, there can be a variety of reasons

Preparatory work - tips for a review

Lawn trimmers (88.00€) are usually equipped with a 2-stroke engine. The engine needs a mixture of petrol and oil as fuel. The exact mixing ratio can be found in the manual. Please check in advance whether there is enough fuel in the right mixture in the tank.

Read the user manual to see how the boot process works. Please follow these instructions twice. If the lawn trimmer still does not start, either the engine has flooded or the spark plug is dirty. Read here what to do now.

Flooded engine - so it starts again

If you pull the starter rope more than 10 times when attempting to start your trimmer with the choke open, excess fuel will accumulate in the combustion chamber. The vernacular describes the problem as 'flooded engine'. This is what to do now:

  • Close the choke (choke).
  • Pull the starter rope 20 to 25 times to create airflow in the engine
  • Set the engine lever to full throttle and pull the starter rope at the same time
  • Release the throttle and pull again

You can also support your efforts by using a jump starter spray before trying to start.

Spark plug dirty - How to solve the problem

If all efforts to start are in vain, subject the spark plug to a thorough check. Loosen the spark plug connector and unscrew the spark plug. Clean all contacts with a dry cloth. Before reinstalling the cleaned spark plug, please wait a few minutes to allow any remaining petrol to evaporate.

If the spark plug head is completely sooty, cleaning will no longer have any effect. In this case, replace the unusable spark plug with a new one.

If the striking grass trimmer cannot be started with a clean or new spark plug, consult the nearest service workshop. There is probably a more serious problem that requires the experienced master craftsman.

Proper use of a grass trimmer includes important safety precautions. Also wear work gloves and protective goggles during repair and maintenance work. If your efforts are successful and the engine suddenly starts, nobody should be near the rotating line cutter head.
