A planted wall not only looks beautiful, it also provides oxygen and cools on hot days. The good news is that greening a wall does not have to be expensive or complicated. Find out below which cheap options are available.

Make a planted wall yourself
A wall garden can be installed both outdoors and indoors. Models for indoor use are usually a little more expensive and complex, since not a drop is allowed to go astray here. (You can find more information about vertical walls indoors here.) On the other hand, you can also put self-made models on the wall outdoors, e.g. made of pallets. Anyone who is less technically gifted or is looking for a quick solution will find several options on the Internet, e.g.:
- Plant bags and planters for individual green wall design
- plantable picture frames for selective wall greening
- tailor-made systems for complete wall greening
Below are the models available for purchase, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and their prices.

Alternative: climbing plants
You can green your walls even cheaper with climbing plants, but it takes a while for the wall to grow over. This variant is also suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, although you should avoid plants with adhesive roots indoors, as they damage the wall. Instead, build a nice trellis and choose plants that will cling to that trellis without taking up the wall. This is also a good option for outdoor use. Probably the most popular climbing plant for indoor use is the ivy. Also popular, if somewhat slow-growing, are zebra weed and porcelain flower.
