The versatile and very decorative Dipladenia is not only very suitable for planting in balcony boxes or patio containers, it is also an excellent traffic light plant. Here, however, it does not grow as a climbing plant but rather as a hanging plant.

The Dipladenia looks very pretty in a hanging basket

No matter in which form you cultivate the unfortunately poisonous Dipladenia, also called Mandevilla, give it a warm and bright place that is also protected as well as possible from wind and rain. However, they do not like direct sunlight at midday. The Mandevilla is not frost hardy and is also difficult to overwinter. Temperatures below about 8 °C can definitely damage it.

But the Dipladenia can be easily multiplied by offshoots. If you cut a few shoots in autumn, you will have young plants in spring and can easily cope with the possible loss of the old plant. However, hibernation can be successful in a bright and well-tempered winter quarters.

How to care for your Dipladenia in the hanging basket

The Dipladenia is considered relatively undemanding and easy to care for. It can survive a few days without being watered. So a weekend trip is not a problem for its owner. Water your Dipladenia about once a week, and then not too much but rather sparingly. Give the plant a little fertilizer about once a month. You can simply mix this into the irrigation water as a liquid fertilizer.
