A sunrose is not enough? Then take action and make your wish come true by multiplying the sunrose! You can use several methods to do this. They are spoiled for choice…

Division - the simplest variant
The division of the perennial is considered the simplest method of propagation:
- in spring or autumn
- Excavate sunroses extensively
- remove large clods of earth, if necessary using a water jet
- Cut the root system into several sections
- each section should have shoots and buds
- Plant and water sections
- care like adult plants
Root the cuttings in the pot or glass
Cuttings are best cut in summer. Then it is warm enough for the cuttings to root well. The cuttings can root both in a glass with water and in a pot with soil.
How to proceed if you decide to use the pot cuttings:
- Cut side shoots 5 to 6 cm long
- Cuttings should be semi-lignified and have at least 3 pairs of leaves
- remove the bottom pair of leaves
- Plant 3 cm deep in pots with potting soil
- keep moist
Sowing: Attention, because the seeds are cold germinators!
Sowing the fine seeds is not difficult either. In particular, you should note that the seeds are cool germs. It is therefore not worth sowing in the living room. It is better to pre-culture on the balcony or terrace and then continue cultivating in a cooler room such as the bedroom.
That's how it's done:
- Harvest seeds in autumn
- dry
- sow from March
- Fill the bowls with seed compost
- Sow the seeds, covering them thinly with soil
- press and moisten
- place in a cool place at 5 to 10 °C (e.g. balcony)
- as soon as cotyledons are visible, set warmer (15 °C)
- Plant out from June
The lowering method
Finally, you can multiply the sunroses using sinkers. To do this, you need a healthy mother plant. Choose a nice shoot and pull it down to the ground. There it is covered with earth and fixed with a stone. The tip of the shoot should look out of the ground. Keep moist and cut off when the shoot is rooted!
tips
The freshly propagated specimens are not very hardy. Therefore, you should definitely protect them with brushwood or straw in the first winter.
