Thin out regularly, do not cut back

With this fast-growing shrub, it is less advisable to start radically with secateurs in spring or autumn and shorten all the shoots. This only leads to the shrub becoming increasingly bare from below over the years.

It is therefore much better to check every year which shoots are more than two years old. These are removed right at the base. This process is called clearing. As a result, the ranunculus bush permanently rejuvenates itself by producing new shoots.

The ideal time to thin out

Prune your ranunculus bush right after flowering! Do not only remove the older shoots, but also crossing and diseased branches. At the same time, you now have the opportunity to cut off the old flowers. This means that the ranunculus bush is willing to develop new flower buds. A rebloom in August is then no longer a rarity.

Mainly the shoots from the previous year bear the flowers. If you would like to use them as decoration at home, you can simply cut them off. This is not a problem. The plant, which grows up to 2 m high, regenerates quickly.

Do you want to propagate your ranunculus bush? Nothing easier than that! In addition to the option of separating and planting the runners, you can cut off cuttings. These are either placed in a glass with water or stuck in soil and kept moist.
