The common trumpet tree (Catalpa bignonioides) originally comes from the warm and sunny south-east of the USA, but has also been cultivated here for some time, primarily as an ornamental tree.

Sunny location with lots of space preferred
The trumpet tree needs a lot of sun and warmth and a wind-protected location. The deciduous tree tolerates direct sunlight and heat without any problems, but it is quite sensitive to frost. Unless you want to plant a small cultivar like the "Nana" trumpet tree, you should also plan plenty of space - the trumpet tree can grow up to 18 meters high and develops a quite spreading crown.
Nutrient-rich, slightly moist soil is ideal
In its homeland, the deciduous tree is mainly found on river banks and meadows. As a result, you should also choose slightly moist, very nutrient-rich soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH value in this country.
tips
While both plants share a similar name, the trumpet tree should not be confused with the highly poisonous flowering shrub brugmansia (also known as "angel's trumpet").
