Although it is not hardy in this country and has to be overwintered to survive, it is often planted. But how poisonous is it?

Leadwort is only slightly poisonous

Slightly toxic, but harmless to handle

The word 'lead' included in its name may cause confusion. The lead root does not contain lead and yet it should be consumed with caution. It belongs to the Plumbago family and is also known as Plumbago.

Little is known in the literature about the active ingredients in leadwort. But there are indications that all parts of it are slightly poisonous. Therefore consumption is not recommended. However, the leadwort cannot become dangerous in the care. It neither irritates the skin nor can any toxins be absorbed through the skin.

tips

Even if leadwort is slightly poisonous, it is not safe from pests such as spider mites and aphids.
