Canned tangerines refine cakes, taste great with rice pudding and are a popular dessert, not only with children. However, canned fruit is often heavily sugared. In addition, there is a lot of waste, which can be saved with home-cooked fruit.

Ingredients for 4 glasses of 250 ml each
You only need a few basic ingredients to cange tangerines.
- 10 tangerines or clementines, seedless if possible
- 450ml water
- 150-250g of sugar
Depending on personal preference, you can optionally flavor the fruit with cardamom or vanilla. It tastes delicious if you replace 150 ml of water with rum.
Utensils needed
First of all, you need suitable glasses. This can be:
- twist-off jars with undamaged seal,
- Classic jars that are closed with a lid, rubber ring and clip,
- Jars in which the lid, which is fitted with a rubber ring, is firmly connected with a clamp.
You can cook the tangerines in a wake-up pot or in the oven.
preparation
- Put the water in a saucepan with the rum if necessary and bring to the boil.
- Stir frequently until the sugar has dissolved.
- Optional: Cut open the vanilla pod, crush the cardamom pods and cook briefly.
- Peel and cut mandarins. Carefully remove the white skin.
- Divide the fruit among the previously sterilized jars. There should be a 2cm border at the top.
- Pour the hot liquid over them so that the tangerines are completely covered.
Cooking in the wake-up pot
- Place the glasses side by side on a wire rack in the pot. They must not touch.
- Pour in enough water so that the glasses stand two-thirds in it.
- Wake up at 90 degrees for 30 minutes.
Cooking in the oven
- Place glasses in a fat pan and pour two to three centimeters of water.
- Place in the oven on the lowest rack.
- Set the temperature to 100 degrees and leave the preserves in the hot tube for 30 minutes.
tips
After canning, allow the jars to cool completely and check for a vacuum. If you store the mandarins in a dark, cool place, they will keep for several months.
